All of Culte du Cuir's products are made using high quality, full grain leather that is sourced exclusively from ethical and eco-consciously operated tanneries located in Europe. But whether you're looking for the next level of luxury, or the most eco-consciously produced leather, this is for you.

Vegetable tanning produces the highest quality leather. Tanned in vegetable derived ingredients, this leather is the most eco-friendly option, for several reasons. First, this tanning method uses all natural ingredients, no polluting chemicals; and second, this method produces the most durable, long lasting leather. This is the kind of leather that will last a lifetime with proper care.

Vegetable tanned leather has a slightly stiffer feel than oil tanned leather, develops patina with use - this means the color will get deeper and richer with time, and has a smooth surface with a slight sheen.

Most of the vegetable tanned leather offered by Culte du Cuir is Italian Vachetta leather, tanned in Tuscany by tanneries specializing in this unique vegetable tanning technique. See listings for more information (the only pieces that are not Vachetta leather from Tuscany are the 'natural' and 'ivory' pieces, which are produced using a standard vegetable tanning method in European tanneries.)
